Albert Ungar is a character in the Airforce Delta series who appears as a main character and the secondary antagonist of Airforce Delta Strike.

Albert is the leader of the 1st Element of the Merv Alliance's 1st Squadron. He is an ace pilot serving under Sergei Kinski at the start of the game.

Biography

Background

Much of Albert's life before the game's events is unknown. He joined the Merv Alliance at an unknown point and eventually became an ace pilot. Merv eventually surrendered to the O.C.C..

Personality

Albert is shown to be a cold, ruthless, arrogant, selfish, malevolent, short-tempered, and power-hungry person who is destined to be the best pilot ever. He has developed a growing hatred of Ken Thomas ever since he first encountered him in the mission The "GALE" and is infatuated with fighting him 1 on 1, viewing him as his only real enemy. Most of the other O.C.C. pilots seem to dislike him for his rude and arrogant personality. He does however, seem to legitimately care about Sergei Kinski and is shown to have standards, such as when he expresses disgust over Ellen McNichol becoming brainwashed and used as a pilot on their side, and is annoyed with Pierre Gallo who he believes should have gotten his skills on his own like Albert did as opposed to being artificially enhanced.

Appearance

Albert is a tall, muscular man with blonde hair and light-yellow eyes. He wears a black flightsuit like most of the other O.C.C. pilots. He appears to be Caucasian.

Albert first appears in the debriefing for the game's intro mission BLUE WING KNIGHTS. He greets Sergei when he returns and says that he looks tired. Sergei tells him that escorting bombers is never easy nor fun and the bombers took heavy damage this time. Albert says he heard about this and asks Sergei if they lost the new attack planes and Sergei says that they were met with a real force and one of them in particular was a real pain and he could turn out as good as Albert. Albert smiles and says that he's new to this game so becoming as good as him is not much and the enemy pilot must have been a cinch for Sergei. Sergei asks him if he has a higher win ratio on the battle simulator and he'll run into this pilot eventually in any case. He then firmly tells Albert that he's counting on him. Albert says he doesn't deserve to be called an "ace" but he'll do his best to live up to Sergei's expectations. Sergei tells him to do just that and the pilot is the one in the pale blue plane and leaves to file off his report and have a drink. After Sergei leaves, Albert expresses interest in this blue jet pilot and says he will only know if he's a worthy enemy after they've locked horns in the skies.

Later, Albert appears in the mission The "GALE" where he is first seen in a cutscene where he shoots down an AWACS plane called 'Skyfish' and three Maverick units. When the cutscene ends, if Leon Kleiser is not shot down at this point, he tells Albert that they don't need the likes of him and Albert says, "The weaker the dog, the louder it barks." and Leon is disgruntled. If Leon is shot down before the cutscene, Albert wonders where he is and asks if the enemy got him. Albert then spots Ken's blue jet and tells him he'll take him on. If Leon is shot down first after the cutscene, Albert will ask what he expected and Leon bails. If Albert is shot down first, he tells Ken that he won't forget him and Leon says with a snicker, "So much for the great up-and-comer!" Albert then says that his plane is done for and he bails out. If Albert is shot down after Leon, he tells Ken the first part of what he says if Leon was shot down first, and guesses he can't head back and bails out. If a certain number of enemy planes besides Albert are shot down, he will say, "If I only had more fuel!". John Rundal then asks him if he thinks he can escape and Albert says his name. Albert then asks Ken what's his name, describing him as 'you in the blue jet,' then he says it doesn't matter and he'll see him around, and flies away. In the debriefing, Sergei meets Albert who is feeling angry. Sergei tells him not to let it bother him but Albert asks why they merged with the 2nd Squadron and Sergei tells him that it was an order from the top, all the way from HQ and says he reckons they wanted to strengthen the final blow. Albert starts feeling worried and says that the 2nd Squadron has no teamwork and Leon got in his way. Sergei gets angry and tells him that they are all Merv men and asks what good would it do to bicker and Albert needs to concentrate on getting their status out of class H. Albert apologizes and says he's worked up because Ken caught him off guard. Leon then appears and angrily asks Albert what kind of strategy was that and he's got to work with his men and he'll make Sergei worried. Albert apologizes to him and says he'll be more careful next time. Leon agrees and tells Albert to stop calling him by name and he's older and more highly ranked than him (although the first fact is incorrect as Albert is revealed to be 28 while Leon is revealed to be 27 in the character profiles). Albert tells him he will watch himself and Leon leaves. Sergei tells Albert not to be so inflammatory and Albert says there's something he doesn't like about the 2nd Squadron. Sergei asks him if he's referring to Giuseppe and Leon and tells him that they are able pilots and he's better off working with them than against. Albert says that they don't show Sergei the proper respect but Sergei tells him that there's no sense in pointing fingers and the bond of trust between soldiers is all they've got. Albert reluctantly agrees and Sergei tells him to quit with the business involving Ken and understands his frustration but tells him he needs to put the status of the Merv people above first and Albert agrees. Sergei then leaves and Albert says to himself that Sergei really talks like that but if he really cared about the Merv, he'd recognize the value of their self-respect. Albert mentions Ken, his abilities, and the status of the Merv people will all be in question until he defeats them. He then says he'll shoot down Ken next time, then the world will know his strength.

Albert appears later in the game again in the debriefing for the mission Iceberg. He greets Sergei who was feeling tired and Sergei says he managed to make it back alive. Albert then says he heard the Beloe fleet was hit and asks if Ken was involved, referring to him as 'Pale Blue,' and Sergei says no and it was a different Squadron, that even included new recruits and says they seem to be struggling just to fill in the ranks. Albert gets angry upon hearing this and Sergei states 'that E.D.A.F. is something else' and the Beloe fleet was nearly unbreakable and he doesn't know where they get their talent. He also says he had thought the only real threat was Jamie Jones who he refers to as a 'living legend.' Albert tells Sergei he heard that Jamie gets as much as respect as him and then there's the pilot in that pilot in the pale blue jet. He also states that their enemies should be reaching their breaking point by this time but they continue fighting, somehow. Sergei explains they fight to defend their beliefs, and to protect the ones they love. The same reasons that any soldier has for fighting. Albert asks about this and Sergei says they're just the same and they can't allow their comrades to suffer forever, so they must fight to raise the status of people. He also says with Beloe sunk, their navy has lost its main fleet and it is their duty to avenge this loss. Albert agrees and Sergei says he thinks it's time for them to hand out the reward they received for their comrades. Albert smiles and says he understands and Sergei says, "Let's go."

Albert appears again in the mission Doll Master as part of the third wave of enemies attacking Ballga airbase. He first appears in a cutscene with Ellen McNichol and a MiG-29SMT "Fulcrum C" flying in formation with him. He tells all units to fan out and engage and the MiG-29SMT flies away. Albert then tells Ellen to take the lead and that he'll bring up the rear. They then spot Ken and Albert says, "Gotcha!" Albert recognizes Ken's plane by its blue color and tells him to get ready for a rough landing. Ken tells Albert to spare the threats and Albert yells, "Come on then!" As they pursue Ken, Ellen tells Albert, "Storm, this is Doll!" and Ken is shocked. Albert tells Ellen not to let Ken get away and Ellen agrees. If Sergei is still in the fight when Albert and Ellen appear, Albert will ask him if he is okay. If Sergei is shot down before Albert and Ellen appear, Albert will lament upon having been too late. He then says, "You won't get off that easily with me!" If Sergei remains in the fight, Albert will refer to Ellen as 'just a messed up human' after she says, "The Emperor...?" Albert then says to Ellen, "Our Doll looks like she's in trouble. What's up?" and Ellen says she's seen Ken's plane flying somewhere before. Albert then asks her what is she looking at and she says she doesn't know twice. Albert tells her to stick to orders and Ellen says, "Why?! Why do I... ?" During the fight, Albert yells, "Hey, over here! Why are you after our doll?!" Rick Campbell will be impressed by Albert's speed and Albert says, "Ha! Finally someone who knows how to put on a little speed." Albert then yells at Ken to fight him but Ken refuses and Sergei, if he remains in the fight, tells Albert to forget about him and to keep his eye on the big picture. If Albert is shot down first, he will say, "No! The plane...! Damn! Ejecting!" and Sergei, if he remains in the fight, will say, "Storm! If you're bailing out, we're..." and Ellen will say, "Even Storm's had to..." If Sergei is shot down first after Albert and Ellen appear, Albert will say, "Nobody rubs Hulk's face in the dirt! You'll pay!" If Ellen is shot down first, Albert will say, "You've taken down our commander? Now You'll really pay!" If Albert is not shot down, but a certain number of other enemy planes are, he will say, "Things are looking grim... Better pull out." In the debriefing, Albert and Ellen report to Navigator who tells them to enter and asks Albert how Ellen is now. Albert tells him there are no problems detected and thinks she shows high potential for a young pilot. Navigator understands and asks if they can consider the experiment on her a success and Albert says yes and tells Navigator to check the report for the details. Navigator agrees and tells Albert he is to use Ellen in his squadron. Albert asks to be sure and Navigator explains that they are now positioned on the front line, making the perfect battle grounds for Ellen. Albert gives no response and Navigator says he will consider promoting the status of the Merv people if this goes well. Albert agrees and says he will be going. In the O.C.C. meeting room, Albert asks Ellen why she hasn't said a word and Ellen says it's nothing and she still gets a little nervous with the higher-ups. Albert smiles and says she almost sounds human when she talks like that. Ellen is confused and Albert thinks to himself that the whole Doll Project is enough to make him vomit and wonders who would've expected the day to come that they'd use mind control on prisoners of war and unleash them as robot soldiers. Ellen then says to Albert she would like to ask him to help her to go through some aerial maneuvers if he has a moment. Albert thinks to himself that he knows this is dirty work but it's for the advancement of his people. He then tells Ellen to prepare to take off and Ellen says she'll get going then. After Ellen leaves, Albert points out that it almost seemed like 'Pale Blue' (Ken) knew about Ellen and wonders how could that be.
