"This large test fighter is one of the best aircraft in the world when it comes to one-on-one aerial combat. The 3-surface, swept-forward wings help the aircraft attain a high degree of maneuverability."
Airforce Delta Storm manual description, page 24.
"It's an experimental plane with forward swept wings. Because of its stealth capabilities, it makes an great[sic] fighter."
Harry's description of this plane in the shop.

The Su-47 Berkut (Беркут in Russian, translating to "Golden Eagle", given the NATO reporting name of Firkin) is an experimental plane that has appeared in all Airforce Delta games under the S-37 moniker (It was known as this until 2002). It was made to test forward swept wing technologies, which has advantages and disadvantages compared to normal wings. Testing is supposedly still underway with this craft, as of 2010. In Airforce Delta Storm it is used by Delta Leader, while in Airforce Delta Strike it is used by Albert Ungar, and can also be used by John Rundal.

Design (All Games)[]

This is an incredibly interesting looking plane; Despite the Sukhoi moniker, this plane barely even resembles its ilk. The most striking feature is, of course, the forward swept wings, which was designed to test advantages compared to normal wings. Aside from that, everything else is also different compared to the Flanker family, from front to rear.

Performance[]

Airforce Delta[]

This is a decent plane. However, it's somewhat outclassed due to many aspects. Firstly, most players will unlock this after the end of the game, if they do not know about the secret unlock requirement. And even still, you'll have the F-22 unlocked as well, thus rendering this... Basically useless.

Airforce Delta Storm[]

An above-average plane. This can be a good backup plane for your other, better planes. It's unlocked fairly late in the game, which hurts its usefulness somewhat. It has some stiff competition with several other planes, such as the F-15S/MT Active, the Su-30MKI, and the F-22 Raptor, all of which have pros compared to this plane. That hurts its usefulness even more. And don't even get us started with planes like the MiG-1.44 MFI and the XF-0002 Phosphorus.

Airforce Delta Strike[]

One of John's best planes. Sadly, it has major flaws. Firstly, internal bomb bays hurts its DPS, considering you can only fire two missiles at a time. Secondly, its special weapon isn't very good; ML-AAMs are not accurate compared to LR-AAMs or even HM-AAMs. As a result, this is arguably one of the worst "top tier" planes in the game.

Trivia[]

  • This plane being called the S-37 is somewhat of an error, at least when it comes to Strike; this plane was officially given the name "Su-47" in 2002. Strike came out in 2004, meaning its name in that game is an error.
  • The livery used by the target Su-47 in Mobile Infantry would later have a very similar substitute in Ace Combat: Joint Assault in the form of this color scheme. There are some differences, as the color scheme from Joint Assault has more grays, and is more fiery overall, but the similarities are there. (Though, it's most likely merely a coincidence in the end)
