Colonel Zan Daas is an unseen character in the Airforce Delta series who appears as a central character and the main antagonist of the original Airforce Delta for the Dreamcast.
He was a former commander of the Dzavailar Air Force, before the coup. In actuality, he was the mastermind behind the radicals of the People's Federation Government, and one of the leaders of the Federational Revolution. It was noted that many of the old military's soldiers (And Laconia's former allies) followed him out of personal loyalty to him. After destroying the true island fortress, he challenges the Lieutenant to a final showdown, even after a People's Revolution delegate had requested a peace talk. He is battled over the Sea of Karvadoss while he pilots his personal MiG-1.44 MFI, where he is shot down and killed.
His only bits of "dialogue" are a message sent to the Lieutenant; "I will be on the beach of the fortress city." Outside of that, he makes no physical appearance, and is only mentioned in the final level of the game.
His personal MiG-1.44 has the same basic pattern design as the players' MFI, albeit, his plane is colored white and blue while the players' is red and orange. Another minor difference is the emblem located on the inside of his MFI's rear canard is colored red, while the player's is colored yellow.
- He is the only enemy in Airforce Delta to pilot a MiG-1.44 MFI.
- He is also the only named character in the game.
- When he is shot down, the mission takes a noticeably longer time to end; It is only "completed" once his MFI has exploded. During the replay, the camera pans over to his aircraft as it is shot down, and doesn't pan back towards the player until it explodes.
